Bubble Popper
A downloadable game for Windows
Pop the bubbles before they disappear, they add time to your timer. If the Timer runs out, you lose!
Created in less than 10 minutes for the 10-minute game jam.
This was a fun exercise in executing a plan. I knew I wanted to make a Whac-a-Mole style game using exclusively Widget Blueprints. I spent about an hour planning the steps that I would take and how long each step would take. First, I made both of the widgets, the UI widget and the Bubble widget. The UI has to timers by event coming off of the begin play that are set to loop. The first is responsible for the Timer counting down, and the second spawns WBP_Bubbles randomly within the viewport. Bubbles disappear after 1.5 seconds on screen. It would have been nice to add some custom meshes and sound effects, but I wanted to make sure I stuck to the time limit. Working within only the Widgets using timers was an easy set up that is not as costly as it would be to use tick events. My intention with this project was to create a product that runs efficiently while I spent my coding time efficiently as well, and I feel like I achieved that.
